Subway
The 3 by 6 classic and its larger relatives.
A 1 to 2 ratio the eye reads as correct. Hard to get wrong, easy to make interesting with grout choice.
Mosaics
Pearl, glass, mirror, metal and mixed material mosaics.
Sold in sheets, so intricate patterns stay achievable without cutting every piece.
Natural stone
Marble, travertine, slate and stone look porcelain.
Real depth and variation. Most need sealing, and we will say which.
Wood look
Porcelain planks that read as timber.
Wood in a room where wood struggles. No refinishing and no water worry.
Large format
Fewer grout lines across the floor.
Makes a small kitchen feel larger and is quicker to keep clean.
Decorative and encaustic
Handmade, cement, cobblestone and patterned tile.

The questions that come up on site
Where does a backsplash start?
From a mark in the centre of the wall above the counter, with the first tile centred on it. Working out from the middle is what keeps the cuts even at both ends.
Sanded or unsanded grout?
Sanded is harder wearing, but the sand will not pack into a narrow joint. On a 1/8 inch line, unsanded is the right call.
